Your pathway to Nationals

Performance. Recognition. Invitation.

There is no fixed qualifying total. NZPU considers performances across the season within the relevant lifting categories.

  1. Compete during the qualifying season

The final qualifying competition for the season will be published by NZPU.

  2. NZPU reviews category performances

The aim is to consider the top ten lifters in each category. This is a selection target, not an automatic place or a guaranteed invitation.

  3. Receive and accept your invitation

NZPU provides your invitation, entry instructions and acceptance deadline directly. Rounds and deadlines will be published by NZPU.

  4. Compete

Keep your membership valid for your competition date and follow the final event briefing.

Does the final qualifier guarantee a Nationals place?

No. It is the final opportunity for a competition performance to be considered. NZPU issues invitations through its own selection process.

Do I need a minimum qualifying total?

No. NZPU Nationals uses an invitation approach with no fixed qualifying total.

Do I need to compete at Nationals before IPL Worlds?

No — the 2026 IPL Worlds event takes place in November, before NZPU Nationals in December. Follow the separate Worlds qualification requirements; a December Nationals total is too late for the published 2026 Worlds qualifying window.
